loss of acceleration in 4th gear?????

Any ideas what could have caused a brief loss of acceleration power. speed was 110, revs at 40,000 and was driving up hill.

Pulled to the side of the road, stopped engine then restarted and the problem hasnt come back since! very strange.

When i pushed the gas pedal when this happened it was like the car wasnt in gear although it was.

The car is a 96 spi.

hum...sounds like a bad clutch. Know my mum had the same problem on her old car.
Cant describe it in english tho, but it was worn out inside the gearbox.
