Like the other commnents, i see the positives of getting an earlier casr as you probaly get a better looking car for (retroness) for the money. However, In my opionion the later injection cars when working well are really reliable! But on occasion do suffer from some strange electrical, sensor, air gaps in the ignition, and ecu problems, whioch can be a nightmare to diagnos. But as i said when running they run well.
Not to mention the larger engine!! If you wished in the future to start adding bits to the engine, it becomes quite hard to do this with the injection models, especially the spi, due to the emissions.
I am not a huge fan of the half leather standard interior on most of the mpi cars - although the metallic red one above is VERRRRY nice!
I have a 96 Spi personally and love it. It always starts, even when cold. The Mpi certainly offers more safety features - air bag, side impact bars etc.
My advice would be depending on what you intend to use teh car fo.... will you drive it in winter? or just summer? is one main question.
As also posted consider the LOW costs of new wheels and arches from the uk if you needed to tidy teh mini up a bit.
