Hej från Göteborg

Inlägg av madmax83 »

Alternatively, hello from Gothenburg.

Mini enthusiast, but previously lived in Sweden and I've just moved back here to live and work. I hail originally from Ireland (Belfast) and have owned an 80's mini city and a 1971 hillclimb prepared Mini Clubman 1275...I think I owned a few more as a I use to buy and sell classic British sports cars to fund my way through University.

I am thinking about venturing back into the world of "Hundkojan" just something that can get me from a to b and be in good enough condition to be legally and reliably on the road :) Don't worry too much about using English as I need all the practise I can get!

Tack

Jonnie

Hi Jonnie and welcome back to Sweden! Quiet a lot of minis in the Gothenburg area. Hope you´ll find one that you like and don´t hesitate to use the forum for hints and support (when needed).
Your last sentence..... you probably meant Swedish but wrote English, right?

Hahaha! Excellent! I should try to get my English correct before I start with Swedish! I have a svenska flickvän and have had for the last 4 years, but she prefers to perfect her English than to talk like a 4 year old in Swedish with me. She lives in Stockholm, so I commute up there every few weeks.

To give you my background, I've worked for both Jaguar Land Rover and Ford of Australia in powertrain development and am a mechanical engineer by trade. I currently work at a rather large educational institution in gothenburg :) I wouldn't say you should come to me with your engine problems, but if you want to talk powerful engines, I could burn your ear all day :)

I keep an eye on here and blocket for hundkoja's, but unfortunately, you do not have the beautiful site called ebay here in Sweden which is a shame! Actually, it is a good thing, I would spend all day on there! But, every tip is welcome.

No we don´t have a Swedish eBay yet, even if Tradera (auctions) are part of eBay. But being from Ireland you might be passing through U.K. on a visit to home..... Why not pick one up then? But to be honest, they are not much cheaper than the ones you find on Blocket. As you might not know, minis were not imported to Sweden during the 80:s. So the cars you´ll find are most likely to be pre 80 or around 93 and up. The old ones are still reasonable in price at 15´and up towards 40´for a good one. Later cars from say 30´and up.
Tell us what you are looking for and we will keep an eye open for you! When searching on Blocket don´t just use the word "hundkoja". Search for Austin, BMC, Mini Cooper and even Leyland. Sometimes a nice car is hidden behind the "wrong" title. Good luck! :rivstart:

Hi Jonnie!

I am also a "foreigner" here working a large educational institution (you mean a university right)! I am a Scot but living in Malmö!

I took me ages to find my mini here to be honest! I do think they are very pricey here for what you get. I went to see one a couple of weeks ago and it was so bad i could of drained my pasta with it , it was so full of holes!

I did have a dream of a project with an engine conversion but that bubble has been burst by some silly rules regarding bhp per kg!!

I write in English here all the time and the guys are quite accommodating! The few I have met though have had a little more trouble understanding my accent, you know who you are - optus! (only kidding)

But well good luck finding your mini, i actually think blocket is quite good, maybe 1 new mini (well not new minis as they are BMWs, but you know what i mean) every couple of days!

Take it easy

welcome to hundkoja.com!

To get back to Ebay and the swedish version "www.tradera.se"... The biggest different is that in Sweden there is about 9million people. In the UK (probably less then half the size, maybe even a third) there is 60? million which make the range of products for sale online sooooo much bigger. I have done the opposite of you and have moved from Sweden to England and to the cotswold.

Good luck with finding your car, they do exist but can take quite a while before you'll find what you want.

Hi guys,

Thank's for the advice on the searches, it definitely opened up a few more options :) Yep, it is a university I am working at. I will sit on the search for a while, the one advertised on here that is a rolling shell would be great if I could get an engine put into it easily, but being in Goteborg and it in North Stockholm doesn't help.

Yep, ebay has a better place in the UK, but I still think that tradera rather than blocket is the way forward. I am tempted to search every advert that says "bid" i.e. make an offer and offer them a packet of chips and a can of coke. I've bought and sold more things than I care to imagine and I always put an asking price on things. If I got more, ace, but I always built in a bit of haggling price :D But, I am in Sweden now eh! When in Rome.

So, would anyone like to Swap a mini for a packet of chips and a can of coke :D
